Ack

Okay all you experienced Moms, I need you.

I need a list of menus and activities that will keep my kids happy and pleasant and that will take the least amount of energy from me as I am completely busy coughing and hacking and sneezing and collapsing onto horizontal surfaces.

Hi Suzanne,

As you know, I am dealing with the same issue, and we just bought a plastic table and chairs at IKEA (washable!) on which I tape a lot of white paper and cover the surface with various coloring implements. ;)

I'm sorry to say that our Tivo-ed collection of "Wiggles" episodes gets a work-out, too. ;)

Trapping little ones in the high chair with teeny, tiny pieces of chopped apple is good for nearly an hour as well, particularly if aforementioned Wiggles are playing. ;)

Making forts. It entertained my kids for hours. Give them an assortment of sheets and blankets and all the chairs and tables you can afford to lose for a day or two. Blanket forts can be happily furnished with pillows on the floor and a stash or favourite books. How about flashlights to read by or make finger plays on the blanket wall? Stuffed animals can also come and live in the fort with you.
Kids always like parents to visit their forts but, frankly, most of us don't fit so well, a fact that makes blanket forts special because they are really only for little people.
Hope that gives you some R and R time!

I'm sorry you're not feeling well. All of the above activities sounds so good. I'll give my quick fix, cover all the food groups meal. Boxed macaroni and cheese with tuna. My kids all love it. I just make the mac n cheese, throw in a can of tuna and mix. Then I add a salad or carrot sticks and a can of fruit or an apple. They devour it and it is quick and easy, very little clean up too- one pan.

too bad they don't read English yet. Rachel Ray has a 30 minute meals for kids book that is fantastic! It is geared towards kids so they can fix their own meals.

Fingerpaint, playdough, macaroni art, a bin full of beans and some cups, matchbox cars, coloring books, and heather's idea. FORTS!

This is the hardest part of being a Mom. I will get my kids to play doctor, letting them place band-aids on me, feed me sips of tea, take my temperature. They love it and they get a good lesson in nurturing too. It's amazing how long a box of bandaids will entertain kids!

Try Sesame Street and the Wiggles. Its not great but you'll get through the illness and you can make it up to them afterwards with lots of running around and playing.
