Hard Questions
She sings all the time. This morning's song:
I love my mama.
Yes I do.
I love my mama.
Yes I do.
My Ruskie mama.
No I eat.
My Ruskie mama.
No I eat.
I love my mama.
Eat. Eat. Eat.
I love my mama.
Eat. Eat. Eat.
My mama loves me.
Eat. Eat. Eat.
My mama loves me.
Eat. Eat. Eat.
My Ruskie mama . . .
The song stops. A small voice asks, "Mama, did Ruskie Mama love me?"
"Yes."
"Why no I eat?"

That is such a hard question. I'm sorry she even has to ask.
Such a heartbreaking question; how can you adequately answer it other than to say her bio mother loved her but did not have the money to buy her food (thus avoiding, for the moment, addressing any other issues that may be involved with her placement in the orphanage). The questions, for all of us, will only get harder as time goes on.
Oh my goodness, how do you respond to that? Bless her little heart.
i would've been dumbstruck by this question... it makes you wonder how much they remember about their life before the orphanage.
may you always find the right words to answer their questions lovingly and truthfully.
These are heartbreaking questions. I ache for all of these precious children who even have these questions in their minds. I dread answering these questions. You did well.
Poor baby! What a confusing set of circumstances for a little girl to have to wrestle with.
