I checked your blog (several times today) and still nothing. I checked Elle's and there it was! That is you arrived safely, etc. I enjoyed reading it. Was getting ready to sign off when I found you had left one also. Is it pretty there? Sounds likt it. Sorry you're not going to the orphanage until Wed. It will happen though, and soon. Much love to you both, Mom/Carol
Oops! I didn't know this was the questions and answers part. My question, is it pretty there? Can you get a room away from where they party? Love, Mom/Carol
Hi Carol,
It is not pretty, but I can see that it will be when the trees bud and things start to grow. They are in that dead grey stage between winter and spring, like we had in February or March.
I've taken lots of photographs of pretty old buildings though. There is no place that is not near parties, as the whole city apparently parties in the streets on Saturday night. Maybe they were celebrating Easter, but I somewhat doubt it.
Love, Suzanne
What are their customs for Easter? Anything unusual?
Hi Suzanne,
Its Serena (from the internationaladoptwa list). I've been out for a while, but am so happy to hear you are in Russia!! Serena
Dave and Debbie,
We saw a lot of brightly colored hard-boiled eggs been presented as gifts at the market, or sitting in a bowl on the housekeepers' desk or being peeled by men walking on the street. American colored eggs pretty much stay at home adn then go off in lunches during the week. Here they are, apparently, exchanged as tokens of friendship.
On Saturday night we were outside an Orthodox church and got to watch the Blessings of the Breads. People brought their breads for their Easter meals and had them blessed. We do this also at the Episcopal Church and I would guess the Catholic church does too. I like seeing the traditions that connect the different denominations.
Best,
Suzanne
